A startup that offers an agriculture delivery service for locally sourced goods is celebrating the opening of a 20,000-square-foot warehouse that will permit the young company a better ability to expand its reach.
Simon Huntley, the founder and CEO of Harvie, announced the startup's new distribution center is fully operational along McCandless Street in Lawrenceville. It's four times the size of its former location.
"This new facility is a piece of the infrastructure that a robust and resilient local food economy needs to thrive," Huntley said in a prepared statement. "Now we can take the next step in growing this vision: this year we will grow to support local food economies across Pennsylvania."
The roughly 40-person company hopes to expand its delivery service beyond the Pittsburgh region to the rest of the state, and this warehouse plays a key role in accomplishing this feat. Last December, Harvie announced the ability to serve 120,000 more residents in western Pennsylvania with its variety of produce and other foods obtained by more than 350 local farmers.
Harvie delivered nearly 83,000 boxes of local food to its subscribers in 2023.
