A Pittsburgh-based robotics firm unveiled a new capability on Monday for two of its warehouse-specialized products that will allow the duo of robots to work together autonomously and without the need for human input.
Seegrid Corp. said its autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) named Palion Lift, used for vertical operations, and Palion Tow Tractor, used in horizontal applications, can now work in tandem to load and unload carts in a warehouse and that they can do so without having to rely on a human operator. The company announced the new feature during the ProMat 2023 event in Chicago, which is also where Lawrenceville-based Thoro.ai showed off its new AMR product as part of a partnership with Big Joe Forklifts.
According to Seegrid, the new interoperability of its AMRs allows its customers to optimize workflows and improve operational efficiencies.
"Expectations and supply chain pressures continue to become more demanding and complex, requiring more integrated material handling solutions," Seegrid Chief Sales Officer David Griffin said in a prepared statement. "Not only does this automation mean improved safety, reliability, and throughput, but through coordinated movements between Seegrid Palion AMRs, the business case for our customers gets even stronger."
Seegrid employs about 200 workers out of its headquarters located at the RIDC Park West complex near Robinson Township.
