A construction-focused robotics firm has announced the launch of its latest product, which is capable of lifting, carrying and placing up to 5,000 pounds of rebar bundles at a time.

Pittsburgh-based Advanced Construction Robotics Inc. said that its new IronBOT serves as a co-working companion to its rebar-tying TyBOT, which can work in tandem with one another on construction sites to aid workers with the placement and installation of heavy materials. The two "BOT Bundle" can provide at least 50% schedule savings during a project's rebar installation phase, ACR said.

“We are confident the combination of TyBOT and IronBOT generates a disruptive technology, meaning the time and cost savings are so significant on a job that it will disrupt the way our industry installs reinforcing steel,” Stephen Muck, co-founder and executive chairman of ACR, said in a prepared statement.

ACR said IronBOT completed its first project last February on the Port St. Lucie West Boulevard Bridge in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Its deployment cut the rebar installation phase of the project from 14 days to seven days, placing over 147,000 ponds of rebar. The company's TyBOT then completed over 58,000 ties across 6.5 production shifts.

Founded in 2016, ACR now employs 46 workers out of its headquarters in Hampton Township.
