Aerotech Inc., a Pittsburgh-based automation machinery manufacturer, announced plans to expand its cleanroom space by over double its current size as part of an effort to keep up with demand and expected growth in the future.
The plans call for 6,500 square feet of Class 6 space to be used for the manufacturing of ultra-clean automation systems. It's an expansion that comes as part of a multi-year effort for the company, which now operates across more than 220,000 square feet of manufacturing, office and engineering lab space,
"The cleanroom investment is important for supporting our customers in the semiconductor and microelectronics industries," Robert Novotnak, president of Aerotech, said in a prepared statement. "Given our current demand and future outlook, these investments will help us to continue providing our customers with the products and services they expect from Aerotech."
North Side-based Astobotic Technology Inc. served as one of Aerotech's most recent customers. Astrobotic sent its Peregrine lunar lander, which is set to depart for the moon in the first half of this year, to Aerotech to undergo testing as part of its preparation for final integration with United Launch Alliance's Vulcan rocket, the vehicle that will transport Peregrine to outer space before it's ejected to start its own journey to the lunar surface.
