A Mattoon, Illinois-based internet service provider is the latest company to announce it is now offering high-speed internet service in the Pittsburgh area that can reach gigabit speeds.
Fidium Fiber said its new Fidium@Work fiber optic service offering is available in over a dozen neighborhoods found outside of Pittsburgh's city limits. The service is also now available in select markets across California, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Texas and Vermont.
"We’re excited to bring Fidium Fiber’s gig-speed internet service to the entrepreneurs and small businesses who are the backbone of our communities," Rob Koester, senior vice president of product management at Fidium, said in a prepared statement. "We’re transforming the way people think about their business internet service, delivering the reliability of an all fiber network, the consistent pricing business owners need, and an easy, hassle-free experience."
Fidium said its Fidium@Work offer is one that is designed to benefit startups and other small businesses that don't require enterprise-level networking. The company said other business types can benefit from its service, too.
The gigabit speed offering from Fidium is the latest to join a growing list of ISPs that have activated such a service.
In August 2022, Verizon Communications Inc. announced the rollout of the company's 5G Ultra Wideband technology in Pittsburgh, which can result in download speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second. And in 2018, GoNetspeed expanded its high-speed fiber optic internet services in Beaver County, which came shortly after Comcast Corp. launched its Xfinity Gigabit service across the country that, at the time, covered 98% of its Pittsburgh market.
