Canonsburg-based software simulation company Ansys Inc. announced it has expanded its partnership with tech giant Microsoft Corp., which will look to increase the availability of simulation tools in the cloud.

According to a company press release, Ansys (NASDAQ: ANSS) said the long-term collaboration will result in a new offering on Microsoft's Azure cloud platform that will give customers the ability to use Ansys' advanced software in a web browser. Ansys customers will also be able to connect to third-party tools more easily as a result of this collaboration.

Additionally, Ansys said it will work with Microsoft to build digital twins that are connected to internet of things (IoT) devices, autonomous driving and flying systems development as well as the use of simulation data for the training of machine learning systems and artificial intelligence creation.

"Ansys Access on Microsoft Azure will enhance the development and design processes of our mutual customers through increased productivity, sharper workflows and greater access to cloud-based CAE tools," Shane Emswiler, senior vice president of products at Ansys, said in a press release. "By pairing Ansys' industry-leading simulation solutions with Azure, customers can innovate at scale in a virtual environment without compromising design accuracy or product integrity."
