Michael Hockenberry has been appointed by the board of directors for Chorus Call and Compunetix, two Monroeville-based telecommunications firms, to serve as the president of both companies. It's a post he takes on following the passing of Giorgio Coraluppi last fall, the founder and former CEO of both companies who is often cited as the Pittsburgh inventor of telecommunications technology that led to the group video communications platforms like those found on Microsoft Teams, WhatsApp, Zoom and others.
Hockenberry takes on the post after working at the companies for over three decades, 20 years of which he spent in senior management positions, including roles like senior vice president and federal systems division manager, senior design engineer and program manager.
"It is a privilege to have the opportunity to lead this organization and to build upon the solid foundation established by our founder, Giorgio Coraluppi," Hockenberry said in a prepared statement. "I am committed to honoring Dr. Coraluppi’s values of integrity, shared objectives, and intellectual curiosity. I have worked alongside this leadership team for many years and am excited by the opportunity to tackle the next generation of challenges we face. I look forward to building upon our success and continuing to drive growth for the company."
Hockenberry holds a bachelor's in electrical engineering technology from Penn State University.
Chorus Call and Compunetix employ about 650 workers throughout its headquarters in Monroeville and at its offices across the globe.
