Kaarta Inc., a Pittsburgh-based startup capable of mapping complex objects and environments with its mobile system of cameras and sensors, announced it secured three new patents across the U.S., Japan and China.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded Kaarta a patent that covers its approach to processing point clouds and meshes via its use of multiple positioning data points. These data points are then able to apply images taken to the created mesh while also respecting accurate color replications.
Meanwhile, the Japanese Patent Office and the China National Intellectual Property Administration awarded Kaarta patents for its laser scanner that uses real-time ego-motion estimation.
“We continue to build upon and strengthen Kaarta’s robust and growing portfolio,” Kevin Dowling, Kaarta CEO, said in a press release. “We target fundamental technology as well as products and applications of our systems.”
Kaarta employs about a dozen workers according to its LinkedIn page. It was first founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Bloomfield.
