Abridge AI Inc. announced on Wednesday that it has partnered with Sutter Health, a Northern California health delivery system, to bring its generative artificial intelligence transcription and documentation platform to physicians in the region. This expansion comes after Abridge announced a $150 million Series C financing and a collaboration with NVIDIA.
“We are highly focused on innovation as a lever to help us achieve our vision and mission of delivering safe, high-quality, equitable care to all of our patients,” Sutter Health President and CEO Warner Thomas said in a prepared statement. “Sutter is equally committed to the thoughtful integration of emerging technologies like AI in health care that support our physicians to help deliver on that mission.”
Abridge utilizes AI to record conversations between doctors and patients and generate real-time notation that then flows directly into patients' electronic health records. Laura Wilt, Sutter Health chief digital officer, said in a prepared statement that the technology “will help us better serve our patients by eliminating the burden of clinical documentation that can detract from patient-clinician interactions.”
A press release put out by the companies estimates that “40%-80% of the medical information patients hear during office visits is forgotten immediately.”
“Clinicians often don’t have time to write detailed patient instructions and summaries that reflect the details from their conversation that would most benefit the patient,” Abridge CEO Shiv Rao said in a prepared statement. “This is a prime use case for generative AI, and it’s a privilege to team up with those from Sutter Health on this new patient-centered initiative.”
Abridge has previously deployed its technology at various health systems, including UPMC.
