North Side-based data services firm Expedient has announced its latest expansion in Ohio, adding a former data center of Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. in Columbus to what is now a total of five data centers in Ohio.

Representing the company's 15th data center throughout the country, Expedient indicated in an announcement that the facility totals 102,000 square feet and is "a state-of-the-art facility (that) augments the company's ability to deliver best-of-breed IT solutions." Expedient has also expanded into Milwaukee, Denver and Phoenix.

The space is big enough to accommodate more than 33,000 servers, according to the announcement, and features three megawatts of power capacity expected to be increased to 7.5 megawatts in the future.

Bryan Smith, CEO of Expedient, said in a prepared statement:  “We are expanding our footprint to meet the rapidly growing demand for our services,” with an approach that "accommodates enterprise applications running on a variety of different platforms, allowing clients to transition to the cloud at their own pace and access value-added managed services effortlessly."

The new facility comes with an agreement with Nationwide, which will be the landlord for Expedient, and will take full operational control of the facility and be responsible for future upgrades and expansion investment.
