Carnegie Mellon University on Tuesday announced Associate Professor Rebecca Taylor has been named the first Ansys Career Development Chair in engineering.
Taylor, who is a mechanical engineering professor, also has appointments in biomedical and electrical engineering. Her naming as Ansys Career Development Chair is part of the Canonsburg-based company’s work with CMU and CMU faculty’s work using Ansys products or in fields related to Ansys’ work.
Taylor said in a statement that the Ansys (Nasdaq: ANSS) endowment will help with the CMU mechanical engineering training.
“My lab is working to address the advanced manufacturing challenges that will enable the combination of both top-down engineering processes with bottom-up engineering processes,” she said. “Using Ansys software in my lab and classroom will help prepare my students to use self-assembly as a powerful tool for advanced manufacturing.”
Taylor’s research group uses structural nucleic acid nanotechnology to create biosensors and actuators, and also takes inspiration from the structure of the heart.
