A Polish software engineering firm has named Pittsburgh as the headquarters for its U.S. base of operations as the company undergoes a period of international growth.

Spyrosoft SA, which has about 1,500 people on its payroll globally, announced that a suite at North Shore Place II in Pittsburgh's North Side will serve as its headquarters in the U.S., though there aren't any local employees working out of it yet.

According to Spyrosoft Chief Marketing Officer Emilia Sekowska, the company will look to onboard local employees as needed. The site's general manager, when hired, will report to the board of Spyrosoft's sister company, Spyrosoft Synergy S.A., Sekowska said.

"The future employment is [a] matter of our growth pace," Sekowska said in an email statement to Pittsburgh Inno. "Usually, we employ as soon as we get the first project to deliver."

That's not stopping the company from embedding itself into the local tech scene, however.

Spyrosoft joined the Pittsburgh Robotics Network (PRN), a nonprofit advocacy organization looking to champion the region's more than 140 robotics companies. Professional service robotics fall under one of the company's many offerings, which include those affecting the automotive, financial services and geospatial industries, among others.

"We believe that Pittsburgh is the best location to share our extensive robotics expertise," Piotr Anioła, co-founder and CEO of Spyrosoft Synergy, said in a prepared statement. "We look forward to collaborating with the tech and robotics community, including local companies, to drive robotics innovation and develop groundbreaking projects."

Jenn Apicella, interim executive director of the PRN, celebrated that effort.

"The company’s presence here will accelerate the development of autonomy technology and contribute to the growth of our world-leading industry cluster," Apicella said in a prepared statement. "We welcome Spyrosoft to our vibrant ecosystem and look forward to supporting their growth in our region."

Matt Smith, chief growth officer at the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, also expressed gratitude for Spyrosoft's establishment of its U.S. headquarters in Pittsburgh.

"This investment underscores a culture – here in the region and across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania – that affirms we are open for business, domestic and international," Smith said in a prepared statement. "Spyrosoft’s presence adds to a growing number of foreign-owned firms – currently more than 400 – that have chosen to invest in the Pittsburgh region."
