East Liberty-based startup accelerator Ascender announced the launch of a new networking series aimed at providing founders with free educational resources to help grow their business.
The 10-part series, launched in conjunction with Ascender's 10th anniversary, will invite entrepreneurs across industries to hear "lightning" talks from an established local expert on the second Wednesday of each month at Ascender's co-working space on Penn Avenue. Attendees of the free event will also earn a free pass to use Ascender's co-working space as well.
Lauren Townsend, co-founder of local ice cream company Millie's Homemade LLC, and Marion Lewis, founder and CEO of software developer Govenda, are set to host the first of these events. Additional speakers will be announced at a later time, Ascender said.
The series is part of Ascender's broader mission of trying to help founders get their startup companies up and running on a path toward profitability.
“If you can get people to believe in you and/or your business, they will make time to help you," Nadyli Nuñez, executive director of Ascender, said in a prepared statement. "It's okay if you don't have it all worked out, but you must start somewhere — even if it means first picking the friendliest face in the room."
