The City of Pittsburgh will once again play host to the Pennsylvania Automated Vehicle Summit later this fall, which returns to the Steel City for the second time since its inception in 2017. It's also the first time the summit has been held in person in over two years.
Set to occur on Oct. 25-26 at Stage AE on the North Shore, the AV-focused industry conference claims to be the largest one of its kind in the Northeast, drawing the attraction of public and private industries and their respective employees across the AV space and the various sectors it touches.
It's hosted by the Intelligent Transportation Society of Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers.
"The PA AV Summit aims to foster a wider public understanding and dialogue around the benefits and issues related to AV technologies," an excerpt from the summit's 2022 prospectus read. "Attendees are encouraged to actively engage in the conference sessions and discussions, sharing their diverse views and perspectives with the other industry stakeholders."
Prior exhibitors and or sponsors of the summit have included Strip District-based AV company Aurora Innovation Inc., Lawrenceville-based autonomous trucking company Locomation Inc., Aliquippa-based PGT Trucking Inc. and Warrendale-based SAE International, among dozens of others.

Session topics for this year's event include those that touch on workforce needs, AV deployment, Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAV) infrastructure and equity and environment. More information can be found on PA AV Summit's website here.
Pittsburgh last hosted the 2018 summit, its second at the time. State College hosted the first one in 2017 while Pocono Manor in the eastern part of the commonwealth served as the summit's third host. In 2020, the summit was postponed indefinitely amid the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2021 edition took place virtually.
