Silicon Valley-based entrepreneurship platform OneValley celebrated the opening of its new coworking space, the Roundhouse at Hazelwood Green, following $13.7 million in renovations and additions made to a former locomotive storage and repair building.
The facility, which spans 26,000 gross square feet, will operate on a membership basis with different tiers, allowing the next generation of startup founders and entrepreneurs to access services ranging from the renting of a desk a few days a month to taking up more a permanent-like presence in the building with the renting of dedicated office space for teams of varying sizes. Members will also have access to OneValley's Pittsburgh Entrepreneurship Platform (PEP) and the company's PassPort Platform, a global network of more than 40,000 entrepreneurs, 450 investors and 200 mentors.
"I feel our vision for Pittsburgh is to bring local resources to local innovators and like-minded individuals that can grow and learn from each other but also have access to a vast array of resources that are going to step in and really play at that global stage," Nehal Bhojak, general manager of OneValley at the Roundhouse, said. "I'm excited to be given this opportunity."
OneValley said the renovations and additions to the facility were made in part due to combined investments from the Richard King Mellon Foundation and the Heinz Endowments.
"This is an example of why Pittsburgh is on the cutting edge of leading the global economy," Sam Reiman, director of the Richard King Mellon Foundation, said. "The entrepreneurs who will be here are going to take in everything that is already happening around robotics, artificial intelligence and Main Street businesses that are providing amenities and services to the entire community and we're just going to continue to make those investments and see that grow."
