AlphaLab Health alumni raises $2.5M

Despite moving from Pittsburgh to Los Angeles in 2023, health care AI developers Handl Health has continued Pittsburgh connections. The company raised a $2.5 million seed round, in part from Pittsburgh-based Riverfront Ventures.

Originally founded in Pittsburgh in 2022, the company was part of AlphaLab Health accelerator in Bellevue from November of that year until March of 2023. After the program ended, the company was accepted into the Techstars Healthcare accelerator in LA.

"It was a really tough decision for us to figure out what to do but it was too good of an opportunity to pass up," Shapari Samimi, Handl Health founding director of sales and marketing, said. "When we did that we wanted to continue to maintain our presence in Pittsburgh. We have some team members there and we plan to continue hiring in the area, we think that the tech talent is just phenomenal."

Riverfront Ventures was founded by Innovation Works in 2013, which also runs the AlphaLab accelerator program.
