Gather AI, a Pittsburgh-based inventory management startup that uses consumer drones to autonomously track goods throughout a warehouse, announced the raise of a $10 million Series A funding round.
The startup said the funding will advance the development of its real-time inventory visibility platform to solve the challenge of misplaced items in warehouses. Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute graduate students Sankalp Arora, Daniel Maturana and Geetesh Dubey are the three co-founders of Gather AI.
Tribeca Venture Partners, a New York-based investment firm, led the round. Other participants included already existing funders such as Xplorer Capital, Dundee Venture Capital, Expa, Bling Capital, XRC Labs and 99 Tartans — a local investor that backs CMU startups.
The startup said global supply chain issues exacerbated by the pandemic have further highlighted challenges that have been affecting logistics-heavy companies for decades. Gather AI pitches itself as being able to better effectively manage these operations as it relates to warehouse inventory and at an expense that will still allow companies to maximize their revenue.
"Gather AI empowers warehouse operators with automation without needing (capital expenditures) to help solve age-old problems," Arora said in a prepared statement. "Since our first warehouse deployment in 2020, we have seen incredible demand. This funding round will help us meet the overwhelming interest."
Gather employs about 20 workers. The startup is slated to showcase its tech during a free "Robotics Discovery Day" event in November hosted by the Pittsburgh Robotics Network.
