Abridge AI is looking to help health care providers avoid burnout and better accommodate for growing staffing shortages in the industry, all through the power of generative AI. It’s a mission that is now being aided by a $13 million Series A funding round the company closed on in August 2022. Abridge, which employs 40, develops software that, utilizing AI, is able to record, analyze and summarize patient-doctor conversations in real time, cutting down on the need for doctors to do their own notetaking. In addition to its capital raise, Abridge in August 2023 announced it had landed a deal with Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare to deploy its technology across the health care system’s footprint over the next three years.
How will this funding further grow the company?
We’re using the funding to further develop and scale our enterprise solution. We’ve had some recent successes as a result, such as a collaboration with Epic that enables health systems to seamlessly integrate our generative AI-based documentation solution into Epic’s clinical workflows. We also continue to expand our partnerships, such as with Emory Healthcare and its more than 3,000 clinicians.
What role, if any, does Pittsburgh play in your company’s efforts to secure funding?
Abridge is both an AI-native and health care-native company thanks in part to its roots in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is an up-and-coming innovation hub, especially for all things AI, in large part because of the research coming out of Carnegie Mellon University. UPMC, one of the largest and most innovative health systems in the country, has also been a great partner over the years.
