It was her own experiences as a new mom that led Lindsay Stuart to create her company, Mamalux, and its products — leakproof loungewear for breastfeeding mothers. She created the loungewear and the company’s patent-pending built-in absorbent pads using bamboo-based material. The pads, which are fully removable and washable, have three layers of material, meant to wick moisture, absorb and prevent any leaks. The garments themselves also are constructed with comfort and functionality in mind, with extra-stretchy panels for nursing and pumping access. Since its inception, the company has conducted a successful crowdfunding campaign and has grown to utilize several e-commerce platforms.
How does your product fill a specific niche or solve a problem?
When breastfeeding my first son, I realized that I couldn’t find anything comfortable to wear that would prevent milk leakage (a problem almost every breastfeeding mom is confronted with). The only viable solution was to wear a tight nursing bra and scratchy nursing pads 24/7, but that wasn’t good enough for me. So I created a first-of-its-kind solution: Breastfeeding-friendly clothing with built-in, washable nursing pads. There’s absolutely nothing like this on the market. The technology is patent-pending.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve faced in developing your product?
It has been challenging to keep up with demand, which is obviously not the worst kind of problem. We recently moved factories, from the United States to one overseas (which has been thoroughly vetted in every way) because that was the only way to keep the business viable. The ramped-up production allowed us to recently expand to selling on Amazon, which will help us reach so many more moms.
