A Scottsdale startup has released the newest iteration of its smart home device with illuminated address numbers to help first responders, delivery drivers and ride-hailing services easily locate residences.

Glomensio on Aug. 21 launched preorders for its Firefly Gen 2, which flashes red and blue lights upon dialing 911 to alert first responders of emergencies. The device also flashes green for ride-hailing or delivery drivers and its numbers are illuminated yellow during the evening.

“We are accepting orders throughout U.S. at launch, and will be adding contractors as we go to install the devices for customers,” Gaurav Batta, cofounder and CEO of Glomensio, told AZ Inno. “We are looking forward to presenting at CES in January as our production ramps up and we can push for sales all across the U.S.”

The company is selling the Firefly Gen 2 for $299 with free installation through its network of contractors in the Valley and in Tucson. The company expects to begin shipments of the Firefly Gen 2 by December, Batta said.

Homeowners can customize Firefly Gen 2's color, brightness and flashing duration via the company's app. The weather resistant device typically takes 15 minutes to install.

The idea for Glomensio's Firefly was sparked by a desire to save lives as seconds can make a difference in responding to emergencies, Batta said.

Glomensio plans to add additional artificial intelligence-powered device integrations in the future, some of which may include mobile notifications to alert residents using Firefly 2 to neighbors' medical emergencies.

"If there's a doctor, nurse, first responder or anybody that knows CPR in the neighborhood, they can run down the street and assist,"  Andrew Timler, Glomensio's cofounder and chief operating officer, said. "So that's all going to be done through AI. Everything's going to be automated."

Company plans to expand internationally

Glomensio’s Firefly Gen 2 builds upon the company’s first-generation smart home product with illuminated house numbers, which launched in 2022 and has been installed on homes in eight states, including Arizona, New York, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, the Business Journal previously reported.

Batta and Timler cofounded Glomensio in 2021. Batta, a mechanical engineer, designed and built the company’s first-generation Firefly. Timler is a U.S. Air Force veteran who has served as a first responder and an ICU and emergency room nurse.

Glomensio was a finalist in the Inno Pick category for AZ Inno's 2024 Fire Awards, which honors emerging Arizona startups.

The company is primarily bootstrapped and has ambitious plans in the coming year to expand nationwide and internationally in Europe and India, after initially focusing on product installations in Arizona.

“We hope to be in every state next year, and would like to see Glomensio Firefly lighting the way on every street in our hometown, especially, besides crossing the 10,000 sales mark,” Batta said.
