A startup that has created what it describes as an "undetectable" artificial intelligence content writer has established its headquarters in Scottsdale, where it plans to create more than 100 jobs in the coming years.

Content at Scale leased 6,000 square feet for its new headquarters in the Raintree Corporate Center. The company, founded in 2022, was working remotely with employees based across the country and internationally prior to choosing Scottsdale as its new home.

“Since we are building a first-to-market product within one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, we found it no longer feasible to work remotely, and felt we were losing ground because we weren’t working together, real-time, to advance the innovation in the product,” said Julia McCoy, president of Content at Scale.

The company considered both Austin, Texas, and Scottsdale for its headquarters but chose the Valley because of its growing innovation in AI, McCoy said, pointing to Arizona State University’s partnership with OpenAI and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co.’s chip fabs under construction in north Phoenix.

“We see a lot of opportunity for people actively wanting to join our team and we see potential for clients,” McCoy said. “It’s a great place to be if you’re in the early stage of AI.”

Content at Scale expects to create more than 100 jobs in AI engineering, marketing and other positions within three to five years, she added. The company has 35 employees, with 10 in the Phoenix area.

“Building our headquarters in Scottsdale isn’t just about creating a space for our team; it’s about laying down roots in a community that embraces innovation,” Justin McGill, CEO of Content at Scale, said in a statement. “We’re here to set new benchmarks for what AI can achieve not just in content and marketing but augmenting and 10x’ing our modern-day workforce.”

Company CEO an Arizona native

McGill is an Arizona native, which is also a driving factor in the company’s choice to make the Valley its home. McCoy is relocating from Austin to Scottsdale, while Content at Scale AI Director Jeff Joyce will move from South Carolina to Arizona to work with the team.

Ben Harper, the company’s chief revenue officer, and Simon Ogilvie-Lee, chief design officer, are relocating to the Valley from Europe and Australia, respectively.

“Content at Scale is situated perfectly in Scottsdale, according to all my friendly AI sources,” David Ortega, mayor of Scottsdale, said in a statement. “Thanks to GPEC for their work to connect Scottsdale with another outstanding tech-focused company. Wishing good fortune to our newest community members at Content at Scale.”

Content at Scale created all-in-one software, RankWell, which includes a “lifelike” SEO AI writer that passes “even the toughest” AI detectors, according to the company.

In addition, Content at Scale developed the AI Checker, which is trained on blog posts, Wikipedia entries, essay and articles across multiple large language models. It scans for AI-generated content from ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, all of which leave traces of particular verbiage and syntax. Then, it lets users know within seconds whether content appears to be written by a human or AI.

“It detects patterns or words and how they sound, and predicts whether the pattern sounds robotic,” McCoy said. ”It doesn’t know it's AI; it just knows the pattern of words and that it sounds robotic.”

The company is hosting a launch event on May 1 for McCoy’s latest book, "Joy of Failure: How Experiencing Failure Can Bring Massive Breakthroughs for the Entrepreneur in Finding True Joy, Identity, and Vision." McCoy co-authored the book with ad agency industry veteran Chris Evans.

Content at Scale is looking forward to interacting with the Valley’s burgeoning tech ecosystem and growing its user base, which is more than 3,000 content marketers, publishers and agencies.

“Just spearheading that growth is something that we want to do while here," McCoy said.
