Arizona lags in ChatGPT job creation, but has plenty of room for growth, study says

New ChatGPT Jobs
Since the emergence of ChatGPT there are increasing more companies across the nation seeking skilled workers.

Artificial intelligence has increasingly become an integral part of businesses’ day-to-day operations, and ChatGPT is at the forefront. As a result, more U.S. companies are adding new positions involving the generative AI chatbox tool — but not so much in Arizona.

Of recent job postings that ask for candidates to have ChatGPT skills, less than 1% are in the Grand Canyon State.

That’s according to a study released Tuesday from Acendance, a career development website run by Colorado-based Luminos LLC, which performs business, marketing and economic research.

With widespread concern about how the emergence of ChatGPT might affect jobs in certain industries, Acendance conducted detailed analysis of job postings. The findings showed that there is a nationwide need for ChatGPT skills in various industries and jobs, including those that are non-technical.

The purpose of the study was to understand the demand for ChatGPT skills from employers and inform job seekers on how best to prepare for emerging AI-enabled roles.

“ChatGPT skills are creating job opportunities for people from all walks of life, not just for a small group of tech industry veterans,” said Chas Cooper, CEO of Luminos, in a statement.

This revelation could impact companies and job seekers in the Valley.

It potentially could mean there is opportunity for ChatGPT job growth in industries that otherwise might have previously overlooked how they could incorporate ChatGPT into their infrastructure.

“While some jobs may be eliminated or compensation reduced, I would predict we’ll also see entirely new jobs emerge and pay increase. Job seekers who surf this wave by acquiring ChatGPT and other AI skills will be well positioned for the future,” said Cooper, a Silicon Valley tech industry veteran, in a statement.

While 45% of the ChatGPT job opportunities are in the tech industry, 55% are in other industries — from advertising and financial services to higher education and e-learning.

The study also showed that 52% of the jobs requiring ChatGPT skills are located in states that are not typical tech-industry hubs and 61% are nontechnical jobs in areas such as marketing, product management and customer success.

With a variety of industries and career fields where ChatGPT skills are becoming more needed, there is opportunity for Arizona companies to create related jobs.

For Valley companies interested in adding ChatGPT positions, Cooper said that any company can put ChatGPT to work for them in their marketing departments, specifically in content marketing.

“Content marketers will use ChatGPT to do research on a topic, then to generate an initial draft. The humans will then focus on fact checking, editing and making sure the content meets the needs of the audience,” Cooper told the Business Journal. “In short, content marketers of the future will do less typing and more thinking and decision making.”
