A new golf technology company is starting up in Scottsdale, using a data-backed platform and hardware devices to help golfers improve their game and have a better experience while playing.

The company, Rad Golf, has already raised $1 million from investors in business, sports and entertainment, a company spokesperson told the Business Journal. A series A funding round is in the works for August, with a goal to raise $3 million.

The company said its products will be launching in August. It claims to be bringing something completely new to the market, saying it will help golfers improve their game without changing the way they play.

The spokesperson told the Business Journal that the products will be devices — some wearable — that is meant to provide insight on the course while also measuring performance.

"The marriage between golf tech and equipment has never connected all the dots until now," said Rad Golf co-founder and CEO Peter Johnson in a statement. "Our fully integrated platform of devices communicate with each other to collect and process information that can be used to enhance a players game and improve performance. Our products are designed to do the hard work in the background without confusion, distraction or altering how you play the game."

Along with Johnson, Rad Golf was founded by entrepreneur Drew McFarland and Scott Harkey, CEO of OH partners. It also brings together a high-profile board that was assembled with the help of other golf companies in Scottsdale, Rad Golf said.

The new company’s board will include Kevin Kunkel, former president of Sprint/T-Mobile; JJ Dudum, partner at Discovery Land Co. and Casamigos Tequila; Brian Verdugo, CEO of iGolf; Todd Davis, former CEO of Lifelock; Tom McDonald, former president of Yamaha Golf; Harkey; and Johnson.
