A Scottsdale behavioral health company has enlisted the services of another Valley startup that shares its mission of smoothing out the kinks in the fragmented landscape of health care services.

EvolvedMD said it would be collaborating with Tempe-based Rovicare to use its cloud-based medical software platform as part of its services, which involves using technology to bring behavioral health professionals together with primary care providers to make mental health care more accessible and manageable in person and virtually.

The company said Rovicare’s software will improve connection and access.

"Rovicare's commitment to removing barriers and streamlining care coordination to create lasting value aligns with our mission to reimagine behavioral health," said Dr. Ruth Nutting, EvolvedMD’s director of clinical programs, in a statement. "Our Care Coordination team has done exceptional work over the years serving our patients, and I'm confident that Rovicare's innovative technology will put us on a faster track to realizing that mission while helping us better align to value-based care.”

The transition to Rovicare’s platform will begin in the coming weeks.

Rovicare’s CEO Pankaj (PJ) Likhmania said that his startup’s tools respond to a need that has become more acute in recent years as the health care industry has faced new challenges and had to adapt.

The company’s website said its platform automates and simplifies coordination of care among providers and eliminates clerical work. Its platform handles referrals, medical record sharing, follow-up appointments and analytics, as well as such other things as transportation and rule compliance.

It works with behavioral health facilities, hospitals and health care systems, skilled nursing facilities, at home hospital service and outpatient service providers, along with health plans. The startup has been operating since 2018.

"Rovicare is doing its part with its digital platform to streamline processes, communication, and care," said Pankaj (PJ) Likhmania, co-founder and CEO of Rovicare, in a statement. "Knowing that integrated care is the future, we're thrilled to support EvolvedMD's services with our technology so we can collaboratively reimagine the health care experience for all."

Rovicare was part of StartupAZ Foundation's 2021 Collective Growth Cohort, a one year program in which participants come together to support each other as they work to scale their companies.

The collaboration comes shortly after EvolvedMD announced that it raised $5.4 million during its series A funding round.

EvolvedMD said at the time that it would be using the funding to scale its technology infrastructure and grow its clinical team, including increasing its headcount to 100 by this fall.

The company — which was founded in 2017 and was a finalist in the Phoenix Business Journal's 2021 Small Business Awards — operates in Arizona and Utah, working with primary care providers in organizations such as Honor Health, Foothill Family Clinic, Ogden Clinic, Apricus Health, Granger Medical, Premier Family Health and others.

Plans call for further expansion in Arizona and Utah, as well as moves into more states, the company said in May.
