A Phoenix-based evaporated cooling systems manufacturer landed a new investment to expand its supply chain logistics, operations and workforce.

Air2O announced it received $14.1 million from France-based global renewable company EREN Groupe.

“Our investment in Air2O shows our ongoing commitment to advancing technologies that will help achieve climate targets. Air2O brings a unique solution for highly efficient, ecologically sound hybrid cooling systems that can be deployed cost-effectively in the most demanding environments," Paris Mouratoglou, Chairman, EREN Groupe, said in a statement. "The technology demonstrates a great potential to accelerate the adoption of efficient cooling technologies in any climate zone.”

Air2O manufactures hybrid air conditioning systems that combine two-stage evaporative cooling with an “intelligent” control system that automatically responds and adapts to outside weather conditions by switching from evaporative cooling to air-conditioning when needed.

Air2O, which also has offices in Europe and the Middle East, has been involved in large commercial projects worldwide, including data centers, and agricultural, semiconductor and battery facilities.

Sullivan was not immediately available for comment on how many new workers it expects to hire or whether the company would be physically expanding its Phoenix location as part of the new infusion of capital.

Air2O's cooling systems are used in hangars for Southwest Airlines at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and at Universal Studios Singapore in areas where people queue for amusement rides, Michael Sullivan, the company's CEO and co-founder, told the Business Journal in December.

The company supplied 150 hybrid air conditioning units at the 2022 FIFA World Cup fan zone in Qatar. It also installed 5,000 of its custom-made jet nozzle diffusers to distribute cool air throughout the stadiums.

Most recently, Air2O developed software that leverages artificial intelligence, allowing engineers to design data center cooling systems faster, according to the company.

Sullivan and Moe Salem launched Air2O Cooling LLC in 2007. Sullivan relocated from Europe to Arizona more than four years ago to grow Air2O, which has more than 75 employees.

“Air2O has always been at the forefront of innovation. From data centers and large-scale indoor agricultural facilities to highly sensitive production environments for semiconductors and lithium batteries, our systems are deployed in high-performance environments across industries where efficiency and redundancy are operational priorities,” Sullivan said in a statement. “We thank EREN Groupe for contributing to our mission and enabling us to accelerate the development of new technologies and deliver sustainable, state-of-the- art intelligent solutions to customers worldwide.”
