Gilbert startup secures $2M to expand global supply chain platform

Aramid Technologies, a Gilbert-based software-as-a-service startup, has raised $2 million in seed funding to grow its quality certification software, SmartCert.

SmartCert is a global supply chain collaboration platform that enables companies to prepare, manage and transfer digital quality certifications such as certificates of analysis, material certifications, and certificates of conformance. Aramid will use the funding to enhance SmartCert’s sales and onboarding process, increase product offering and strength the technology team, the company said in a funding announcement.

The funding round was led by Phoenix-based angel investor Paul Winandy along with TitletownTech, Synetro Ventures, Subconscious Ventures, Chicago Early, Lofty Ventures and other unidentified individuals.

Aramid Technologies’ co-founder and CEO Lyndon Lattie said that the concept for SmartCert arose from the “time, money and opportunity” that were wasted due to the labor-intensive manual process of certification. Neil Mix, partner at TitletownTech, recognized the transformation that SmartCert could have on “inter-supplier processes and connecting supply chain platforms.”

According to the company, SmartCert automates and streamlines processes by reducing the time needed to transfer and process certifications, allowing certificates to be electronically bonded to original packaging, and automating other certification procedures. This reduces errors including missing paperwork and decreases customer requests.

The company was co-founded in 2019 by Lattie, who had 20 years of selling engineered product in the aerospace, medical devices and general industry supply chains. Other co-founders include Lonni Kiefer, a former Gannett and advertising agency executive, and Paul Decker, an experienced CEO who successfully exited three industrial technology companies.

Armida’s mission is to “rethink certification delivery, and reimagine a smarter, faster and stronger workflow.”
