Banking on Philadelphia: Fulton Bank continues to expand its presence in the region

Fulton Bank continues to expand its presence in Philadelphia - Submitted by advertiser

The key to Fulton Bank’s growth in greater Philadelphia is to think small.

That’s not a contradiction. Fulton understands that for a community bank to grow and thrive, the team needs to focus on each individual relationship.

“We recognize that each neighborhood we serve is unique,” said Fulton Bank President Angela Snyder. “At Fulton, we’re big enough to provide nearly any banking services our customers may need, but at heart, we’re still a small community bank, and we want to get to know each customer personally so we can recommend the best solutions for them.”

In recent years, Fulton Bank has been doing just that. Along the way, the bank has expanded its presence in the Philadelphia region, adding financial centers, commercial bankers and wealth management team members; launching a Diverse Business Banking program; and entering into a partnership with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Fulton Bank has had a longtime presence in greater Philadelphia. In recent years, the bank began accelerating its expansion in the city by adding financial centers and, in 2022, acquiring Prudential Bank. That led to another seven financial centers branded as Fulton Bank.

In 2023, this growth continued with the opening of Fulton Bank financial centers at 3.0 University Place and on Grant Avenue. Today, Fulton Bank operates 12 financial centers in Philadelphia, part of the bank’s network of more than 45 financial centers across southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.

Fulton Bank has also been expanding the team that provides banking to small businesses and commercial customers.

“Philadelphia is a dynamic market with a strong combination of private companies, health care and educational institutions,” said Lou Lombardi, regional commercial executive for Fulton Bank. “We are working to support innovation in the region, including in the growing life sciences and technology industry.”

“Our focus is to serve as trusted advisors, helping to empower businesses to grow, create jobs and build the strength of the local economy,” Lombardi said.

Diverse Business Banking

Fulton recently launched Diverse Business Banking, an initiative to accelerate outreach to minority, women, veteran and LGBTQ business owners.

The program is designed to connect with businesses that often have had challenges gaining access to financing and banking services in the past. The cornerstone of this program is Fulton’s Certified Diverse Business Advocates, who have received special training to provide advice, education, mentorship and networking opportunities for business owners.

Growing wealth management team

In another example of expansion, Fulton Private Bank recently added to its wealth management team in the greater Philadelphia region, hiring Senior Portfolio Manager Ed Mehalick, Senior Wealth Advisor Jim Peppelman and Senior Wealth Planner Patti Valeri.

Fulton Private Bank delivers investment management, private banking, trust, financial planning, charitable, retirement and nonprofit solutions. Fulton Private Bank is the wealth management business within Fulton Financial Advisors, which has $15 billion in assets under management or administration.

Partnership with the 76ers

Last year, Fulton Bank began a sponsorship with the 76ers as the presenting partner of the Spirit of Small Business campaign, which promotes diverse small businesses in the Philadelphia area to help them grow and succeed.

“The 76ers have built a winning reputation — both on the court and in the Philadelphia community,” said Fulton Bank CEO Curt Myers. “We’re excited to partner with them to advance small businesses, who are key players in building a strong economy and creating opportunity.”

In another aspect of the partnership, the Triple Threat Competition, Fulton worked with the 76ers to engage two Philadelphia high schools in an immersive workshop and competition where students learned about key aspects of professional sports with a focus on college readiness, career exploration and financial literacy/wellness.

Committed to the community

This community-focused approach has been a hallmark of Fulton Bank throughout its 142-year history. In fact, Fulton Bank is one of the Philadelphia Business Journal’s 2024 Partners in Philanthropy honorees. The bank is being honored for its partnership with Operation HOPE, which focuses on advancing financial literacy, homeownership and entrepreneurship in Philadelphia and beyond.

Myers said, “We’ve grown significantly in the greater Philadelphia region over the past few years, and we continue to focus on our purpose to change lives for the better.”
