Triumph Technology Solutions, which has experienced 500% year-over-year revenue growth the past four years and is poised to double its client base in 2023, was one of three North American firms named an Amazon Rising Star Partner of the Year.

The organizations were chosen from a network of 100,000 Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) Web Services partners.

Triumph Tech was named Rising Star for system integrator businesses, a testament to the Philadelphia company's enormous growth in the past two years.

In addition to skyrocketing revenue, the tech firm, which helps businesses transition their data and services to the AWS cloud, has grown from about 20 employees at the start of the pandemic to 200 today. It has also brought on roughly 1,000 businesses as customers in the past two years, a number it is looking to double in 2023.

Triumph Tech began as a consulting practice in 2015, when it was known as JB Consulting, a nod to its founder James Barlow. Just prior to the pandemic, the company rebranded when Barlow's friend Victor Raymond came on as CEO and saw an opportunity to scale the business. In addition to a new name, it adapted the firm's tagline, ideated from Barlow's wife: "We keep our heads in the cloud so you don’t have to."

The tag is a reference to the AWS cloud, which offers businesses over 200 services and products across machine learning, databases, analytics, data storage, security and content delivery. Triumph Tech works with businesses to make their use of cloud technology more efficient.

Rather than obstacles, when the pandemic began Barlow and Raymond saw an opportunity. Video conferences and phone calls allowed them to reach more businesses quicker, adding customers and helping them migrate, grow and scale in the cloud.

"We were able to do a lot more in a shorter period of time – that became the catalyst for us to have exponential growth," Raymond said.

During that time, Triumph Tech forged a relationship with AWS and was brought into its vast network of around 100,000 partners. In a short amount of time, Triumph Tech became the No. 1 systems integrator for startups in Amazon's network, Raymond said.

The business model still largely resembles that of a consulting practice, working with businesses — from single person teams to Fortune 500 companies — to "accelerate their adoption to the cloud, or help to bring their product to market faster," Raymond said.

Triumph Tech isn't expecting a slowdown in 2023. Raymond wants to increase clients to upwards of 2,000 and expects revenue to double over the next year. Raymond declined to disclose specific revenue figures.

With economic uncertainty, Raymond said companies could slash IT budgets and move some of those services to the cloud to save money.

"We're in a unique position where businesses still need continuity but need to crunch costs," Raymond said. "They're looking at how can they spend less money but still grow and have continuity. That’s the cloud."
