Local nonprofit CyberHawaii is teaming up with the federal Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency to host a series of webinars focused on what businesses can do to strengthen their cybersecurity.

The series will kick off on Tuesday, Feb. 6, with a talk on password management and multi-factor authentication from 2 to 3 p.m. Future webinars will take place monthly for the rest of the year.

“Businesses face many challenges, but preparing for cyberthreats may not be a priority until a cyberattack occurs,” said Al Ogata, CEO of CyberHawaii, in a statement. “We’re equipping Hawaii’s businesses that may not have adequate resources to develop robust defenses by providing valuable, commercial-free information to fortify their IT systems and ensure their operations are more resilient. We’re glad to be partnering with CISA who are at the forefront of new, emerging cyberthreats, who will share expertise and technological tools available today.”

According to its website, CyberHawaii was founded in 2016 and is “committed to developing and enhancing Hawaii’s cybersecurity capabilities.” The nonprofit is an affiliate of CyberUSA, and like the national organization, its work focuses on cyber education, innovation and threat mitigation.

The webinars are free to attend, and the series is sponsored by a grant from the state Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, according to announcement.

Additional topics planned for the series include data encryption, cybersecurity leadership in business, mobile device management and remote access, cloud security and more.

“CISA is honored to partner with CyberHawaii and share vital information to help businesses of all sizes become more resilient to cyber threats,” said Jennilyn LaBrunda, cybersecurity advisor for CISA. “As our reliance on technology and the internet grows, so does the level of vulnerability to threats including cyberattacks, ransomware, and identify theft. We will be sharing practical advice that business owners and IT professionals can implement to improve their cybersecurity posture. Using CISA’s resources, we can help our partners establish and enhance their cybersecurity program.”
