The Apple Store at the Royal Hawaiian Center in Waikiki will close Jan. 20, according to a WARN — or Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification — announcement filed with the state Department of Labor and Industrial Relations last month.
"Apple continuously evaluates its retail footprint to ensure it is in the best possible position to provide exceptional customer service and support for its customers," the company wrote in the WARN notice.
The brand's existing Oahu stores, at Ala Moana Center and Kahala Mall, will remain open.
The Waikiki store's 57 part- and full-time employees have been offered positions at the two remaining Oahu locations. According to the WARN notice, of the store's current staff, these four job positions had the highest number of employees: specialists (14); geniuses (seven); operations specialists (six); and tech specialists (six).
The manager of the Apple store could not be reached immediately for comment. Representatives of Royal Hawaiian Center declined to comment on plans for the space after the Apple Store's closure.
