The University of Hawaii Maui College will hold a grand opening and blessing ceremony from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 6 for the Pilina Facility Commercial Kitchen and Educational Center at the Maui Food Innovation Center.

The college announced the event in its October newsletter.

Located on the Maui College campus in Kahului, the Maui Food Innovation Center is a business incubator designed to help local food producers grow their operations. According to its website, the center aims to help “build a stronger, economically diverse, and sustainable Maui by supporting the value-added food industry.”

“The MFIC offers non-credit courses to assist entrepreneurs with startup businesses, concept to consumer, food manufacturing and pitch presentations. Use of the Commercial Kitchen is an integral part of bringing the value-added food products to the marketplace,” the newsletter stated.

The Pilina Facility is a 4,000-square-foot facility with food manufacturing and packaging capabilities. According to the newsletter, it features more than 50 food processing tools, including those for dehydration, baking, bottling, labeling and more. It also has various storage areas, including a freezer and refrigeration.

The grand opening event will feature student showcases, product giveaways and tours of the facility.
