Local telecom company Servpac Inc. has begun construction on an expansion project to its data center at Mililani Technology Park.

According to a June 27 announcement by the company, the expansion will double colocation capacity at the MTP Data Center.

InForm Design is the project architect, and InSynergy Engineering will provide engineering consulting, the announcement said. Servpac declined to share the exact cost of the project, but noted that it is a multimillion dollar investment.

Construction is expected to be completed in mid-October, and Servpac said that operations and client access will not be impacted by the work.

Servpac opened the data center in 2020, and the 30,000-square-foot facility hosts servers and other computing hardware for business clients. As Servpac President Richard Zheng told Pacific Business News in a previous interview, the facility contains independent backups of all its equipment.

“Data needs to be available 24/7 — that’s become so critical these days,” Zheng told PBN at the time. “So, everything here is redundant. If one thing is down, you always have another piece of equipment, which will give continued service to the customers, and you will never have downtime.”

In the announcement this week, Zheng said, “With our investment in this expansion project, we are ensuring that our clients’ operations are never impacted.”

“By adding capacity, we can provide even more local organizations access to the same high caliber of technology. Customers can access their information faster and more securely in this best-in-class data center right in our own backyard.”

In an email to PBN, a spokesperson for Servpac noted that the company will be looking to expand its staff in conjunction with the expansion, including adding more engineers and technicians to maintain the facility. Currently, the spokesperson noted, Servpac is looking for engineers, technicians and project managers.

In the announcement, Servpac officials also said that the company is already working on design plans for a separate expansion on the same property that will provide “an estimated 10 times more cabinet- and power capacity.”
