CyberHawaii, an information sharing and analysis nonprofit, recently appointed Albert Ogata as its first CEO, effective June 12. In his new role, Ogata will develop policies, maximize public and private funding opportunities, ensure programs operate efficiently, build partnerships, and more, according to an announcement issued Monday.

"Al’s extensive background and experience makes him extremely well suited to expand on our mission and develop CyberHawaii into a trusted source of information and solutions related to cyber issues for our community. We are elated that he agreed to take on the new position as CEO," Jodi Ito, chair of CyberHawaii, said in a statement.

Ogata has more than 40 years of experience in technology, information systems, risk management, compliance and operations, according to CyberHawaii. He has served as chief operating, technology and compliance officer at Hawaii Health Information Exchange since June 2020, where he is responsible for operations related to information technology, project management and data analytics, according to the announcement. Ogata has also previously worked at Hawaii Medical Service Association, including as assistant vice president of information security and emergency response services, chief information security officer and director of information protection and privacy.

He earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, and is a graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy, according to CyberHawaii.

“As technology continues to become integrated into the everyday lives of Hawaii residents, the need for each of us to know how to keep ourselves, our keiki and our kupuna safe online becomes more critical,” Ogata said in a statement.

CyberHawaii — founded in 2016 as an affiliate of CyberUSA — develops Hawaii's cybersecurity capabilities through education and cyber security outreach, according to the announcement.
