The University of Hawaii and the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii are teaming up to host a series of events that aims to help prepare students for careers in information technology.

Tech Days of Spring 2023 kicks off Tuesday afternoon and continues through April 6. The series will focus on career preparedness for high school and college students, “in an effort to grow a local, skilled talent pipeline for the thousands of in-demand, local IT jobs,” the organizers said in a statement.

“We are working across our UH campuses to build a strong IT workforce pipeline — from help desk and network technicians to data scientists and software engineers,” said UH President David Lassner in a statement. “The need throughout the community for these skills at multiple levels of expertise has never been greater. Our goal is to connect our graduates with local employers who are looking to hire into these high paying, in-demand jobs and then provide continuing education opportunities to support professional development and promotion.”

Activities, held both in-person and virtually, will include career fairs, panel discussions, talk story sessions and more.

“Hawaii’s tech industry is making strides to put Hawaii at the forefront of innovation and IT security, so it is critical for the economic future of our state that we prepare our young people for these in-demand careers,” Sherry Menor-McNamara, president and CEO of Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, said in a statement.

The first event in the series is a Talk Story with Tech Professionals, which will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at University Lab School cafeteria and will offer the opportunity for students to meet with tech professionals in a variety of roles at different companies.

Next up will be a virtual session on tips and best practices for success at a virtual career fair, hosted from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday on Zoom. Then, on Friday, students will have the chance to put those tips to use at the Virtual UH Tech & Intelligence Career Fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Also taking place this week is a panel discussion on Hawaii Tech at the Forefront, held from 9:30 to 11 a.m.  via Zoom.

Activities will continue through April 6. For the full schedule and information on how to register for the events, click here

In addition to UH and Chamber of Commerce Hawaii, event partners include IT Sector Partnership, CIO Council of Hawaii, Cyber Hawaii, Hawaii Defense Alliance, Thrive HI, the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship, Builders VC, and the Association of Computing Machinery Student Chapter.
