Telecommunications services company Banyan Networks has acquired Pacific Wireless Communications in a deal that closed Aug. 15 for an undisclosed sum.

Banyan Networks provides telecommunications to the public safety and critical infrastructure sectors. Through the acquisition of Pacific Wireless Communications, which has focused on mission-critical solutions and services since its founding in 1978, Banyan said that it will be “perfectly positioned to continue in our role as the leading provider of mission-critical communications and support statewide.”

In an email to PBN, Larry Dietrick, the president and founder of Banyan Networks, explained that the acquisition will strengthen the company’s “solutions offerings, including network engineering of fiber and wireless transport of critical voice and data; public safety communications consulting; installation services; network monitoring, preventative maintenance, and support; two-way radio systems and support; and radio facility design and construction.”

“It extends Banyan Networks’ ability to provide [a] complete turnkey system of mission critical services to continue to support the important work of first responders and those supporting critical infrastructure systems statewide,” he added. “It also serves the diverse needs of other users, such as airlines personnel, hospitality, security personnel, the DoD, and others who rely on communication systems.”

The acquisition extends Banyan’s services to all four major islands. Previously, the company operated on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island; it now also has service facilities on Kauai.

Dietrick said all employees across both companies have been retained following the deal, with a total of about 40 employees.

Banyan Networks also said the acquisition of PWC will allow the company to leverage the strengths of each organization.

“Banyan Networks’ strength has always been designing and implementing high availability networks such as those used for public safety and critical infrastructure,” Dietrick said. “PWC’s strength is its ability to provide, install and support two-way radio systems statewide. PWC is very good at doing mobile radio installation in vehicles. In addition, PWC has long supported the DoD radio community.

“The combination of the two results in an organization that can meet the needs of all clients from radio and equipment procurement to network design and support and maintenance. Each organization can capitalize on the strengths of the other and allow for additional services to be provided to existing customers that weren’t available before,” he added.

“Both PWC’s and Banyan’s customers will benefit from the depth of the combined team and a much broader set of solutions than each company could provide individually.”
