Electric vehicle company, Arcimoto, opened their first Hawaii experience center on Pohukaina street in Honolulu on Saturday. The vehicles were officially available to rent beginning Sunday.

The Oregon-based company creates three-wheeled electric vehicles that can be used for daily driving, local delivery and emergency response and are more cost-effective than gas-powered vehicles, according to officials.

“Hawaii is absolutely ideal for experiencing Arcimoto vehicles, and we can’t wait for locals and tourists alike to experience our pure-electric rides unlike anything else on the road today,” Arcimoto Chief Experience Officer, Lynn Yeager, said in a statement.

“I would like to say mahalo to the people of Honolulu who have been so welcoming and supportive of our mission, and to our fans who have waited years to drive an [Fun Utility Vehicle] in Hawaii. At long last, the wait is over.”

Arcimoto Honolulu will be the company’s first rental location on Oahu. The company's vehicles are also available for rent at RideSmart Maui.

The new Honolulu experience center is also the company’s third Arcimoto experience center, other than in Eugene and San Diego, and is the company’s 11th rental location. Other rental locations include Washington and Florida.

The Arcimoto Roadster and Fun Utility Vehicle, or FUVs, have top speeds of 75 miles per hour and a range of 102 city miles per charge. Arcimoto Honolulu will have an initial fleet of 15 FUVs for rent, as well as one Roadster, according to Arcimoto Director of Communications Jonathan Miller.

FUV’s are classified as autocycles in Hawaii, and a standard driver's license is required to rent them. The Roadster is classified as a motorcycle and therefore requires a motorcycle license.

At Arcimoto Honolulu, renting an FUV for a four hours costs $185, renting for an eight hours costs $285, and renting an FUV for 24 hours costs $325, according to the Arcimoto website.

The vehicles are also available for purchase with the FUV starting at $17,900, and the Roadster starting at $23,900.
