Windward Community College said it is expanding opportunities for agricultural career pathways and is offering free tuition and other services through its Ao Kahi project.
Ao Kahi: Growing Truth and Light is a Native Hawaiian Career and Technical Education project that offers hands-on learning in sustainable agriculture. Classes include plant science, and agriculture, environment, and society.
“The Ao Kahi project is a great option for Native Hawaiian students and anyone interested in any major since sustainable agriculture knowledge is valuable personally and professionally,” said Jodie Yim, Ao Kahi project coordinator, in a statement. “We welcome students to start their career pathway at Windward Community College.”
The program also includes career readiness support, textbook loans, digital access to learning platforms, a paid internship, professional development and more, for qualified students.
Applications are due Aug. 8 for the next cohort that will begin in October and run through January 2023.
“We encourage students to follow their passion with this agriculture career pathway, leading to a certificate and/or degree, and ultimately employment,” stated Windward CC Sustainable Agriculture Instructor Jolie Dollar.
Ao Kahi launched earlier this year. The project is sponsored by ALU LIKE, Inc. and funded through a five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
