Hunt Companies has selected commercial real estate company Colliers as the landlord leasing representative for the retail space at the Residences for Innovative Student Entrepreneurs, or RISE, a live-learn-work community currently under construction across from the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus.

The companies announced Monday that Colliers’ Vice President Andy Kazama and Senior Vice President of Retail Services Division Nathan Fong will be Hunt’s leasing representatives for the 1,700-square-foot space on the ground floor the RISE building.

A public-private partnership between Hunt, UH and its fundraising arm UH Foundation, RISE is a six-story mixed-use innovation center/student housing facility that aims to foster the next generation of student entrepreneurs. It will be run by the Pacific Asian Center for Entrepreneurship at the Shidler College of Business.

Built on the site of the former Atherton YMCA, RISE will feature housing for 374 undergraduate and graduate students, as well as co-working space, meeting rooms, classrooms, and prototyping labs.

The $70 million project broke ground in January and is expected to be complete in 2023.

“RISE offers a food-and-beverage operator a unique opportunity to take newly constructed purpose-built space and be part of an exciting one-of-a-kind mixed-use project,” said Mike Lam, senior vice president of Hunt, in a statement. “The space is ideal for any eatery that is interested in not only servicing the existing UH community of students and staff, but also the larger residential area and those who are drawn to UH, its conferences and sporting events throughout the year.”

In a statement, the companies said RISE is in a “prime location …  for the nearly 20,000 UH students, as well as more than 1,000 faculty and staff, and many who live in the nearby Manoa and Moiliili communities.”

“Further, the major University sports venues – including the Ching Athletic Complex, SimpliFi Arena and Les Murakami Stadium that attract thousands from across the island to the campus – are nearby,” the release noted.
