The City and County of Honolulu Department of Transportation Services, or DTS, on Thursday announced it is investigating a massive shut down of online servers at Oahu Transit Services – the operator of the City’s TheBus and TheHandi-Van – due to a possible cyber-attack.
All OTS networks are affected and there is currently no time frame for when those networks will be recovered and restarted, according to officials with the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services.
TheBus is still in operations with little to no delay in service, DTS said, but TheHandi-Van is unable to access, view, or print Thursday's customer reservations.
TheHandi-Van customers scheduled for pickup Thursday should call 808-456-5555 to schedule same-day pickups, but officials say they expect to receive a high volume of calls. The city will stage vehicles throughout the island to be dispatched to waiting customers with minimal delay, DTS said.
According to DTS, TheBus Pass Office, which is located at the Kalihi Transit Center, also has been affected.
The department also announced the shutdown of the HOLO card and HOLO operations, including online services and call centers for the HOLO card.
TheBus riders should still tap their HOLO cards at the card read, and cash payment is still acceptable, but the HOLO card call center is currently offline and some retail locations distributing HOLO cards are unable to access card accounts, distribute or load/re-load cards.
OTS servers are separate from the city servers and other city operations remain the same, the department said.
