Hawaii-based Hookele Health Innovations is expanding nationally with "Vivia," the company's new home care model, officials with Hookele Health announced Thursday.

Vivia — originally named Neighborhood Care before it launched outside of the Islands — incorporates a model where a senior is assigned an assistant and team who serve them, along with a group of clients who live within their immediate geographic area, according to officials with Hookele Health. In addition to a consistent caregiver who helps with various home care tasks and provides social engagement, the family can choose how often they would like services for their senior, including frequent, short visits several times a day with no minimum hours required.

Hookele initiated its Mainland launch with a partnership in Olympia, Washington which will start in early 2022.

“Vivia by Hookele Home Care brings consistent, tailored, and reliable assistance to seniors so they can stay at home where they want to be, at a cost that fits their budget, as no minimum hours are required,” said Dew-Anne Langcaon, Vivia’s chief executive officer, in a statement.

“With the silver tsunami upon us, the demand for in-home services exceeds the current pool of caregivers available to provide such services. Many families today are simply unable to find the care they need, and waitlists are long," he said.

"Vivia’s innovative model not only transforms the experience for seniors, but also transforms the job for caregivers by offering higher wages, guaranteed hours, and transportation to attract Vivia Assistants, thus making services much more readily available. Usually, Vivia can start caring for seniors in their home, right away.”

Vivia assistants are also trained to help with tasks that include check-in visits, daily in-person medication reminder visits, and help with showers a few times a week, among other offerings.

“Our trusted Vivia Assistants understand their senior client and family’s goals well and are supported by an entire team including Registered Nurses (RN) and administrators that help solve issues in the field,” said Tanya Fernandes, CEO of Hookele Home Care. “Upon an initial assessment, our Vivia Team works closely with the family to identify their specific needs and customize a plan of care for their loved one, and very often, we can get started right away.”

Vivia is also backed by a proprietary software and mobile app that connects the senior's home to the agency and allows for seamless communication, coordination and transparency for family members and accountability via GPS location visit tracking, tasks completion and verified activities for families' peace of mind.

“It's that little bit of help you might need from a trusted personal assistant, who is familiar and personable so that your loved one will recognize and connect with them, which is especially important for seniors with mild memory or cognitive issues.,” said Bonnie Castonguay, RN, Co-Founder of Hookele Home Care. “Our support is measured in outcomes, not hours.”
