Pacific Air Cargo launched a new freight-tracking and notification system this week that is meant to give partners more detailed updates on their shipments.
Through PACTRAK, customers can receive email or text messages at different stages of a shipment, such as when it is dropped off or a flight takes off or lands, or they can retrieve a real-time update online.
Customers with a Pacific Air Cargo, or PAC, account can log in to the company's website to see a personalized dashboard of current and past shipments. A distributed workforce for a company, such as warehouse personnel and delivery truck drivers, can receive updates on mobile devices. People without a PAC account can still enter an order number into a field for a quick update.
“I look forward to PACTRAK making a positive contribution to our partners as they manage through the challenges of driver manpower and equipment shortages," Paul Skellon, PAC director of marketing, communications and special projects, told Pacific Business News in an email. "Our automatic messaging system should help reduce freight recovery wait and delivery times, reducing these costs."
The PACTRAK development process took about four months, and there was previously no perfect off-the-shelf solution for customers, Skellon said.
Pacific Air Cargo, which is based in Los Angeles and Honolulu, has provided air cargo services on Boeing 747s between those cities since 2000, with regular connections to the Neighbor Islands, and weekly services to American Samoa and Guam.
Tanja Janfruechte, CEO of Pacific Air Cargo, told PBN of PAC's revenue trends, “Looking back on the past 12 months, freight tonnage has certainly increased and remains strong out of Los Angeles to Honolulu, as well as to Pago Pago and Guam but we expect it to remain lighter from Honolulu to Los Angeles until Asia traffic into the islands picks up.”
Janfruechte stated in the PACTRAK announcement, “We are pleased to offer this innovative and state-of-the-art tracking service to our partners. We believe that PACTRAK will make shipping with Pacific Air Cargo even more convenient, and we look forward to introducing other enhancements and useful tools in the future.”
