The 31st annual Leeward Discovery Fair, a week-long event hosted by Leeward Community College, will be moving online for the second year in a row due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, event organizers recently announced.
The 2021 installment of the educational fair will take place from Saturday, Nov. 6 through Saturday Nov. 13 and is slated to include more than 20 online activities introduced by ukulele musician Jake Shimabukuro. Each activity will be led by faculty members at Leeward Community College and will include options such as digital apps, DIY deodorant, yoga, ice cream making tutorials, physics, composting, and French language among others.
All videos will be available online for the duration of the fair from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and potential prizes for participating in this year's festivities includes awards from local businesses like Island Vintage Coffee, Ghost Bus Hawaii, Tamura's, Pono Potions, Teddy's Bigger Burgers, and Hoala Salon & Spa, among others.
“For over three decades, Leeward Community College has offered a day of promoting education, imagination, and fun for the families in our community, and to make college feel more accessible," said Leeward Community College Chancellor, Carlos Peñaloza, in a statement.
"But while the coronavirus prevents us from our usual gathering on campus for the second year, our faculty and staff have put together an impressive set of activities that will foster the knowledge and creativity of our keiki. Now, more than ever, Leeward CC is committed to our traditions, our community, and our motto for the fair - ʻDiscovery Begins at Leeward.’ We invite people throughout the state - and beyond - to join us online this year.”
