Hawaii-based rideshare company Holoholo has added a feature to request a Covid-19-vaccinated driver on its app.
As of Wednesday, users could start selecting the "Vaxd" option, which has been added next to other options like the standard "Holoholo" ride, "XL" for larger vehicles and and "Green" for environmentally friendly vehicles.
“We want all riders to feel safe when riding with holoholo,” owner Cecil Morton said in a statement. “Giving them the option to ride with a vaccinated driver helps provide our guests with peace of mind.”
Holoholo launched in late May as a local alternative to Lyft and Uber. It touted a policy of no surge pricing as a primary feature and is operating on Oahu, Maui, Hawaii Island, Kauai and Lanai.
Holoholo told Pacific Business News that of its nearly 15,000 app downloads, about 35% have been provided a ride. It added that 30% of its rides arise from its special categories: Green, XL, Luxury, Assist, Military, and now Vaxd.
Lyft and Uber have not announced a vaccinated driver feature. They have encouraged but not mandated drivers to get the coronavirus vaccine.
