Online grocer Farm Link Hawaii is adopting Grocery OS, a proprietary technology stack created by California-based e-grocer Farmstead.

Farmstead announced earlier this month that Farm Link would be adopting the system, which aims to help grocers automate key facets of operations with the goal of improving efficiency and increasing profits. Grocery OS offers modular software components that cover a range of operations including order intake, delivery route optimization, customer service, and pricing analysis.

“Farm Link Hawaii delivers some of the best, locally sourced products Hawaii has to offer. Building systems to create the kind of smooth, efficient and frictionless operations necessary to make sure customers have a great experience is tricky, and Grocery OS can help,” said Pradeep Elankumaran, co-founder and CEO of Farmstead, in a statement. “Farm Link Hawaii is providing the kind of shopping experience Americans are craving – fresh, local produce delivered to their doorsteps.”

Farm Link CEO Rob Barreca, who worked in tech before becoming a farmer himself, founded the platform in 2015 as a way to help farmers connect with buyers, including restaurants and other businesses as well as individual consumers. Over the years, it has served thousands of customers and supports more than 150 local farmers.

“By migrating to Grocery OS, Farm Link Hawaii will be able to offer its customers unparalleled convenience of same-day delivery with an even larger product selection from over 150 of Hawaii's finest farmers, ranchers, and food makers,” Barreca said in a statement. “With our 20 years of experience in software, product design and farming, Farm Link Hawaii will work closely with the Grocery OS team to ensure the unique logistical and supplier challenges experienced in Hawaii are overcome.”
