Merritt Island-headquartered Craig Technologies announced Sept. 6 it will be a subcontractor for a NASA contract worth as much as $1.93 billion to support the International Space Station and future human spaceflight programs.

Working for prime contractor Houston-based engineering and technology firm KBR, Craig Technologies will be part of a team providing flight crew operations, analyst training, mission preparation and execution support, according to a news release.

The firm’s flight controllers will be involved “when we return to the moon and move on to Mars," said Craig Technologies founder and CEO Carol Craig in a prepared statement.

The contract is an indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract, which means many variables will decide the full scope of work, total length of the contract and amount spent, which could be as much as $1.93 billion.

The integrated mission operations contract has a five-year base term and can be extended by another four years. The work associated with the contract will happen at multiple locations including Kennedy Space Center, Johnson Space Center and Marshall Space Flight Center, according to a KBR news release.

The parts of the contract that Craig Technologies will fulfill and the number of new jobs that will be created were not revealed. Craig Technologies executives could not be reached immediately for comment.

Craig Technologies offers services such as multidisciplinary engineering, systems engineering and integration, cybersecurity, range operations, software design and development, training and courseware development, modeling and simulation, IT support and integrated logistics support.

The needs stated in the contract include mission planning and preparation, astronaut and Mission Control Center flight controller training, real-time flight execution, and vehicle design and development services for all of NASA’s human spaceflight programs running through Johnson Space Center. The contract also specifies software development services for the Avionics and Software Office — part of the International Space Station Program.

This news represents an ongoing relationship between NASA and Craig Technologies. The two previously signed a partnership agreement in June 2022 for Craig Technologies to maintain an inventory of unique processing and manufacturing equipment for future mission support at the agency's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
