Orlando-based Kore.ai, a developer of AI-powered virtual assistants, has named Devendra Kumar (DK) Sharma as its president and chief operating officer.

Sharma, who has been on the Kore.ai board of directors for more than five years, will be responsible for go-to-market functions, revenue growth, client success, strategy and cross-functional collaboration. He is the company's first COO, as this is a newly created position.

Sharma comes to Orlando from Jacksonville, where he was chief information officer at Citicorp International, CEO of WorkplaceCredit and CEO of PayWallet. He also spent five years with Datafornix, a Singapore-based company he co-founded. Datafornix's product is an identity authentication platform.

Posting on Linkedin, Sharma wrote that he is glad to be joining the C-suite of a company that has “built this wonderful platform that has been recognized by Gartner as [No. 1] in the magic quadrant for conversational AI for enterprises for two successive years.”

Chatbots were once limited in their functionality, but the newest iterations of chatbots are the result of advancements in natural language processing that allows bots to simulate human conversation. Put simply, AI models are trained to understand and process human language. Kore.ai built a platform that allows companies to quickly spin up a customized chatbot and deploy it easily on multiple channels.

Sharma was brought on to help Kore.ai scale, according to founder and CEO Raj Koneru. “[He] brings a wealth of experience in spearheading large-scale transformation through modernization and digitization. We believe his operational expertise will advance our product development efforts while scaling our global growth," said Koneru in a prepared statement.
