Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Draper broke ground on Aug. 29 at Riverfront Center in Titusville on a 37,000-square-foot building slated for completion in summer 2026.
The facility will be used for strategic enhanced ground testing for missiles, continuing a legacy of strategic systems programs, said Vice Admiral Johnny R. Wolfe Jr., director of strategic systems programs, in a prepared statement.
The 1,300 scientists and engineers at the nonprofit innovation company work with governments, educational institutions and the military to solve complex problems and has a long history as a prime contractor with the U.S. Navy.
A North American Properties news release said the project will create 50 new jobs with an impact of $16.2M on the GDP of the area. A Draper news release said the campus footprint includes expansion to ultimately support more than 150 employees.
“This new facility enables Draper to continue to deliver on that legacy while preparing for major nuclear triad modernization efforts and underscores Draper’s commitment to national security,” said Draper CEO and President Jerry M. Wohletz in a prepared statement.
Riverfront Center is the closest privately held property to the Kennedy Space Center and according to a North American Properties news release, recognized as a prime location for companies supporting the aviation and aerospace industries. North American Properties will lead development, permitting and construction for the 6-acre Draper campus.
Riverfront Center is one of several Brevard County sites ripe for technology companies seeking to access the infrastructure, resources and a high-tech workforce. Another Titusville spot is Spaceport Commerce Park and nearby Launch & Landing Facility on Merritt Island, where Amazon recently announced a $120 million project.
