Metro Orlando ranks No. 5 in the nation for the most new tech job postings from the prior month amid a rise in nationwide job cuts, according to tech trade association CompTIA.

The city saw a 15.5% month-over-month increase in employer job postings for tech positions, growing by 248 positions when comparing May to its 1,850 postings in June.

It was beat out only by Washington, D.C. (adding 1,560 jobs); Los Angeles (635); Phoenix (332) and Dallas (282).

Black Orlando Tech co-founder Joshua Walker — also a cloud solutions architect at Deloitte — has noticed the momentum. "Our tech community couldn't be more proud of our recent achievements. ... This accomplishment is a testament to the incredible talent pool and collaborative landscape we have cultivated here. The Orlando area's thriving tech adoption and our collective passion for innovation make us a force to be reckoned with. We embrace the opportunities ahead and are excited to continue driving the tech industry's growth in our region."

CompTIA’s data analysis also shows that Florida is competitive, ranking 4th nationally among states with the most tech job postings overall, with 11,161 in June, although that was down by roughly 3%, or 332 postings in May. The Sunshine State was bested only by California (25,917), Texas (22,339) and Virginia (13,188).

Miami ranked No. 20 among metros with the most tech job postings overall, with 2,918 in June, down 10.7%, or a drop of 349 postings, from 3,267 in May.

Growth in tech jobs stands out considering U.S. companies announced plans to cut 417,500 jobs from January through May, a significant increase compared to the same period during 2022, according to Chicago-based Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

“Orlando's tech ecosystem is thriving, and its competitive edge continues to strengthen," said David Adelson, CEO of Innovate Orlando — a new nonprofit charged with growing Orlando’s tech economy. "The significant month-over-month increase in tech job postings is a testament to the city's growing reputation as a prime destination for tech talent.”

Tech jobs stretch across industries, from professional services to manufacturing to finance, which are three of the top fields where growth in tech jobs has been seen, according to CompTIA. A tech job is defined by its activity and required expertise rather than the products or services delivered by the company.
