A new music licensing platform is poised to make waves for video creators.

WavMaker launched March 20 with $5 million in seed funding, connecting video producers to a catalog of songs cleared for commercial use.

The platform was founded by Nashville-based music industry veterans CEO Matt Arcaini, Director of Label Services Mark Stuart and Director of Marketing Caleb Grimm — who combined have multiple Grammy wins and over 50 years of music industry experience.

“As a musician myself, I understand the constant struggle to find affordable, quality music for video content,” said Arcaini in a news release. “Sifting through a platform to find the right music can be frustrating and limit creativity. We created WavMaker to offer creators and musicians a mutually beneficial and frustration-free solution. Our platform frees creators from worry about acquiring high-quality music and allows them to focus on producing incredible content. Musicians have a new outlet for their music. It's a win-win for all.”

The funding round, led by Vicky Patel, principal in Nashville-based Wavy Records and co-founder and principal of Monarch Media, will be used to expand platform capabilities and increase staff and customer outreach.

New songs will continuously be added to the platform’s catalog. Free accounts allow access to the complete library and the ability to download previews of audio files. A paid subscription gives full access.

“Our team has put tremendous care into building an intuitive user interface that makes finding and acquiring high-quality music easier than ever,” said Jack Whitis, chief technology officer of WavMaker. “Our platform abstracts away the inherent complexity of music licensing and makes finding the right song part of the creative process. … I don’t feel like there’s a problem in this space that we aren’t equipped to tackle.”
