Milwaukee entrepreneur Chantel Teague is building an app-based marketplace for hair stylists to connect with clients in real-time.
Teague, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee graduate, launched her company StyleQ, just over two years ago. Through her app, a stylist can list their availability in real-time and from there, can connect with people who need service. The app shows the proximity the user is to a stylist, the stylist’s contact information and customer reviews.
The app is available on Android phones and an app for iOS phones is in development, Teague said. To earn revenue, StyleQ takes a small percentage of transactions made through the app. So far, more than 100 stylists have signed up to use the platform.
Teague conjured the idea for StyleQ due to her busy schedule, which prohibited her from getting to hair appointments on time, or having to cancel them entirely.
Teague, at one point, said she was working as a dancer for the Milwaukee Bucks and at a marketing firm while still a full-time student at UW-Milwaukee.
“I didn’t have a lot of time in between,” she said.
In addition to StyleQ, Teague runs another business, TLC, which is a digital marketing company she launched in January. Over the past year though, Teague has been busy building StyleQ, using capital from various accelerators and competitions to develop the platform.
Teague recently completed gBeta, gener8tor’s free seven-week accelerator for early-stage companies, and in mid-February, earned some money for being part of a team that placed first at the Lift Up MKE’s Hack-A-Pipeline hackathon, which had more than nine teams and 50 participants.
In 2019, Teague was in the inaugural cohort for the Cultivator accelerator, part of the Blueprint program operated by the Young Enterprising Society, or Y.E.S. Teague was selected for the Market Validation, a cohort for advanced companies run, which resulted in her receiving $7,500.
